Terms of Service

The rules for using Council Clarity.

Last updated: April 2026

The short version

Council Clarity is free to use. We do our best to get things right, but we can’t guarantee the site is always accurate or available. Be civil and lawful in anything you post. We can remove content or suspend accounts that aren’t.

The service

Council Clarity is provided free of charge, as-is, with no warranty. We may change, pause, or discontinue parts of the service at any time. We try hard to keep the site up and accurate, but we don’t promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted.

AI summaries can be wrong. Always verify against the original council document linked on each page before making a decision or repeating a claim publicly.

AI summaries

We use AI to summarise public council documents. These summaries are our best effort at plain English, but they can contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations. Every summary links to the original source — treat the source as authoritative.

What you post

When you message a councillor or post on a thread, you agree that your contribution will be:

  • Civil — no harassment, threats, or personal abuse.
  • Lawful — no defamation, incitement, or illegal content.
  • Honest — no impersonation or deliberately false claims.
  • Public — your name and message will be visible on a public thread.

You keep ownership of what you write, but by posting you give Council Clarity permission to display it on the platform and include it in public threads.

Moderation

Every message is screened by an AI moderation layer before it goes out. Messages that look abusive or unlawful are held for human review. We may edit, hide, or remove content that breaks the rules, and we may suspend or close accounts that abuse the platform.

Read our community guidelines for more detail on what crosses the line.

Account termination

You can close your account at any time — email hello@councilclarity.com and we’ll delete it. We can also close accounts that repeatedly break these terms, attempt to abuse councillors or other users, or try to damage the platform. Public threads you have already posted may remain visible on the public record, though we’ll remove your name on request where practical.

Intellectual property

Council data — agendas, minutes, decisions, voting records — is public record and belongs to the public. AI-generated summaries, visualisations, and the design of this site are the work of Council Clarity. You’re welcome to link to us and quote short extracts with attribution. Please ask before republishing full summaries or content in bulk.

Liability

Council Clarity is provided without warranty. We’re not liable for decisions you make based on information shown on the site. Always check the original council source before acting on anything material.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Continued use of Council Clarity after changes are published means you accept the updated terms. Significant changes will be flagged to registered users by email.
